A number of Indonesian and foreign companies are making plans to enter the high-speed broadband Internet access market in Indonesia. These are further indications of the rapidly growing interests in Internet communications and e-commerce.

The majority state-owned Indonesian domestic carrier, PT Telkom, together with Cable & Wireless HKT Hong Kong, is currently developing its TurboNet high-speed Internet access. TurboNet will use the Telkom-1 satellite network that was launched last year. Turbo Net, claimed to have 2mbps speed, is to be launched in the first quarter of 2001.
