CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- James Earl Ray and six others used a ladder made from pipe to climb a wall and escape from a prison in Tennessee in 1977.
In 1978, a condemned inmate simply walked out of a Florida prison wearing a guard's uniform, the New York Times News Service reported.
In the late 1980s, a prisoner escaped from an Illinois maximum security prison during the filming of a movie starring Nick Nolte by hiding in a truck being used to haul supplies.
