DALLAS _ It all started in 1970 in a small fitness center at the Preston Center shopping plaza in North Dallas. It was a modest setting for the cutting edge of a revolution that was trying to redefine physical fitness.
But Dr. Kenneth Cooper wasn't trying to be fancy. Fresh out of the Air Force, he had something to prove.
"I wanted to collect data that showed the value of exercise," recalls Cooper of the Dec. 6, 1970, opening of the first Aerobics Center.
