SAN ANTONIO _ Praised as a giant who kept his common touch and a battler who never lost his zest for the good fight, former U.S. Rep. Henry B. Gonzalez was laid to rest in his native soil Saturday after a three-hour ceremony punctuated by laughter and tears in the elegant cathedral where he was baptized.
"Let us be glad that we had the privilege to see him and to hear him," said former San Antonio Mayor Henry Cisneros, who acted as master of ceremonies before the funeral Mass at San Fernando Cathedral a few blocks from the Alamo. "This good man attained what few mere mortals can almost never hope to attain."
