IT'S the Christmas hamper that really costs a packet...Marks and Spencer are charging an extra pounds 12 just for the cardboard box their Christmas food and drink comes in.

A Sunday Mirror investigation has revealed how it is much cheaper to buy the same food and drink straight off the shelf than pay for a Christmas hamper.

Most stores justify the difference by claiming the high price includes a wicker basket that can last for years.
