LOS ANGELES -- Shunned in recent seasons, the maillot appears to be making a comeback, thanks to a resurgence in Eighties looks and a slowdown in tankini sales.
With more women willing to wear tanks instead of two-piece suits, retailers and swimwear makers are trying to tie into the trend. While presenting her cruise 2001 collection during this summer's market week in New York, Anne Cole, whose family has been rooted in the swimwear business for 75 years, declared the one-piece is back.
