Denver police officer Bruce VanderJagt is dead because Lisl Auman wanted revenge after being jilted, prosecutors told a jury Wednesday.
But public defender Angela Kruse countered that police have made Auman, 22, a scapegoat because they want vengeance for their fellow officer's slaying.
Jurors heard opening statements in Denver District Court where Auman is on trial in VanderJagt's murder and on charges relating to a Buffalo Creek burglary that led to the officer's death.
