BOULDER -- Mark Udall straps on his walking sandals and strides energetically up a hill in Boulder on a radiant summer afternoon.
This accomplished mountaineer, who made a solo ascent of the world's third-highest peak, Kanchenjunga, and who tackled a grueling route on Mount Everest, might be out for a short hike.
But the terrain he treads these days is quite different from the hulking peaks that have long beckoned him.
On this July day, and every day until the sun goes down, Udall strides through suburban neighborhoods hunting for votes.
