FOUNTAIN -- Many things go into competing in a stock car race. Fresh tires ensure winners come out of them. Tim Steele gambled on installing four tires in the waning moments of Sunday's 150-mile Rocky Mountain Classic and hit the jackpot in the last 10 laps on the 1-mile oval at Pikes Peak International Raceway.
Steele won $20,675 and the Automobile Racing Club of America event, a conclusion to a three-race day at PPIR. Steele's race was the first staged by ARCA in Colorado.
In the other two races, sponsored by the U.S. Auto Club, Jason Leffler won the 25-mile midget race and John Heydenreich ...
