Colorado's silver mining roots are surfacing in Ouray County.
In a state where mining of any kind is often relegated to museums and historical tours, an Idaho company is refurbishing the 118-year-old Revenue Virginius mine, eight miles southwest of Ouray, with plans to begin production by the year 2000.
``We bought it to warehouse it,'' said John Simko, chairman and chief executive of Sunshine Mining Co. ``But then we evaluated it and believe we can reopen it at a production rate of about 2.5 million to 3 million ounces a year.''
