KINSHASA, Congo -- Hundreds of foreign citizens began leaving the Democratic Republic of the Congo's capital Saturday, after Rwandan-backed rebels said they were grouping in the west to march on the city.
The United States suspended operations at its Kinshasa embassy, and the State Department said its staff was leaving.
President Laurent Kabila, whose movements and whereabouts have been unclear since Wednesday, was in the second city of Lubumbashi, capital of his southern home province of Katanga, an aide said. State radio said the government would meet there.
