A Denver judge will decide the nation's first challenge to a federal law that keeps legal aliens who have committed crimes locked up during deportation proceedings against them.
Lawyers specializing in immigration law for both the U.S. Justice Department and the American Civil Liberties Union flew to Denver to argue the case Tuesday before Denver U.S. District Judge Lewis Babcock.
Babcock said he will rule later.
At issue is a federal law that went into effect Oct. 9. It says legal aliens convicted of certain crimes in the United States must be jailed during legal proceedings to deport them and may ...
