The Canadian Transportation Safety Board (CTSB), which is investigating the 1998 crash of Swissair flight 111, has recommended that airlines' in-flight fire fighting procedures be improved.
The CTSB issued five recommendations on 4 December that are designed to help reduce risks from factors that have been identified as contributing to the Swissair crash. The Swissair MD-11 aircraft crashed into the Atlantic Ocean of the coast of Nova Scotia while en route from New York to Geneva, killing all 229 people on board.
