Bounties, cheap shots and hatred.
There's been more of that on daytime soap operas recently than in the National Football League.
Unlike previous years, the 1997 season was curiously devoid of heated rivalries. Few matchups had fans or players frothing at the mouth before kickoff.
The reasons stem from the state of today's NFL. Dallas and Oakland, two of the NFL's traditional powers and most despised franchises, have slipped from previous seasons.
