NASA is taking one cheaper step for mankind with a new mission to the moon.
On Monday, the scheduled launch of the Lunar Prospector marks a new expansion of the moon's exploration 25 years after the conclusion of the legendary Apollo program.
Prospector will not land on the moon's surface, even with a robot. Yet it might be the most exhaustive lunar mission ever mounted.
The drum-shaped satellite loaded with five solar-powered scientific instruments will swoop around the moon's poles at an altitude of 60 miles for up to three years.
