A generation has grown up in the 32 years since world heavyweight champ Jack Dempsey last set foot in his birthplace of Manassa, near the New Mexico border.
But this week, the hometown hero's spirit burns brighter than ever, thanks to a class of fifth- graders.
Tuesday, the U.S. Postal Service began sale of its commemorative stamp of Dempsey, ``The Manassa Mauler,'' who wore the heavyweight crown from 1919 to 1926. And Wednesday, the service staged an unveiling ceremony at the Denver Post office at 20th and Champa streets.
