WINTER PARK -- The family-friendly Winter Park resort is getting ready to take on the Vails and Aspens.
The resort, owned by the city of Denver, opened 435 acres of new terrain this week in an area called Vasquez Cirque. That gives it a total of 2,581 acres.
In addition, Denver officials and Winter Park management have signed a deal with Houston developer Gerald Hines to build a $300 million base village. The project will add something Winter Park has sorely lacked: ski-in, ski-out lodging.
