An accident in college forced Dr. Daniel ``Buck'' Houston Buchanan IV to change career plans.
``He had an appointment at Annapolis,'' said his son, Richard Buchanan of Denver.
``He wanted to join the Navy academy and become an officer. But he lost the sight of one eye at the track at Colorado College, so he went to medical school instead.''
Dr. Buchanan, former president of the medical staff at St. Luke's Hospital, died at his Denver home March 13. He was 82.
Services were March 16 at Christ Episcopal Church. The body was cremated and interred at Fairmount Cemetery.
