In a recent letter, Howard Sklar complained about the observations in an earlier letter on the fatalism of Eastern philosophy. Sklar downplayed this by saying that if one ``confronts (his) impure Karma in this lifetime, its associated sufferings will thereby be lessened and eradicated for the benefit of the future.'' ``Ironically,'' he concluded in a parting shot at theism, ``it is the religions of the West and their reverence toward a supreme, all powerful (and external) deity that are much more prone to this `God's will' syndrome.''
According to Eastern philosophy, however, bad Karma is not just ``confronted'' in this lifetime. Rather, for most it takes ...
