Sen. Joan Johnson, D-Adams County, announced Monday that she's running for secretary of state, vowing to clean up an office that she described as plagued by mismanagement.
She said the office is in disarray.
``Sixty-three county clerks cannot depend on the person charged with running elections in the state,'' said the 54-year-old two-term legislator. ``That's a real problem.''
Johnson became the second Democrat to seek the party's nomination to oppose Secretary of State Victoria Buckley, a Republican running for a second term.
