In terms of symbols, no holiday is as confusing as Easter.
A typical day for a typical family will include going to church, decorating the house with lilies, hunting for colored eggs laid by a rabbit, eating a lamb dinner, showing off new clothes (especially the Easter bonnet) and finishing up by watching Ben-Hur or The Ten Commandments on television.
This is a schizophrenic amalgamation of Christian, Jewish and pagan customs all rolled into an all-purpose celebration of Easter, Passover and the fertility rites of spring.
