SAN FRANCISCO -- Gary Hallberg is trying to make a comeback, and he's doing it in small steps. The first objective is to make cuts consistently.
So far he's doing that.
Since 1994, the Castle Rock resident has faded into obscurity as far as the PGA Tour is concerned, and last summer he nearly gave up trying to rebuild his career, but decided to give it one last shot. The results have been encouraging, and he made it through sectional qualifying to get into the U.S. Open.
