Virginia McKean, who heads Greyhound Rescue of Idaho, saved one of six greyhounds at Colorado State University that were being held for fall training labs for veterinary students.
She said that after she talked to the dogs' owners, one them, Gayle Tomberlin of Oklahama, asked his trainer Friday to retrieve the dog from CSU. McKean said the trainer agreed to give it to her for adoption.
The other five dogs will be used for practice surgeries and killed afterward.
