The local TENDER BOARD recently retained U.S.-based AES CORP. as the preferred bidder to build a new power station and associated water desalination complex in Oman. And, a final contract for the Barka development project is expected to be awarded by December 2000.
In so doing, TENDER BOARD officials have stated that subsidiary bids for the power load dispatch centre and water and electricity transmission systems are expected to be issued after the final award for the Barka project. The cost to complete these installation works is expected to range between $104,000,000 and $182,000,000.
