ALBUQUERQUE -- The Sandia Mountains are home to bears, mountain lions and deer.
So why not bighorn sheep?
That's a question being debated by the U.S. Forest Service, which wants bighorn sheep returned to the Sandias, and by the state Department of Game and Fish, which says the mountains east of Albuquerque no longer offer adequate habitat for bighorns.
The Forest Service says it's a chance to show how wild animals can thrive near a city. But Game and Fish says population pressures and other factors would make it hard for the bighorns to re-establish themselves.
