WASHINGTON -- Significant environmental or safety problems plague many of the sites where the government stores highly enriched uranium, the Energy Department said Wednesday.
The department said a review of the facilities shows 155 conditions or weaknesses ``that could result in the exposure of workers or the public to radiation'' from the government's uranium stockpile.
The report on health, environment and safety risks in the storage of highly enriched uranium represented the first national summary of problems facing the Energy Department as it works to dispose of its uranium stockpile after decades of ...
