BOULDER -- Bradford Heap looked dead serious Saturday as he shoveled a forkful of kiwi-and-lime-Jello pie into his mouth, lingering over the sharp, tart taste like a vintner might savor fine wine.
``I think I'll be like a Czechoslovakian judge and be a little tough in the early going,'' Heap joked, jotting down a few low scores for the cream-and-custard pie. ``It was a bit disappointing - kinda like a 1950s diner pie.''
Despite that early culinary setback, Heap enjoyed an enviable role as one of two dozen judges who sampled about 60 entries in the third-annual National Pie Championships - ...
