CONSTRUCTION SPENDING: Construction spending rose 0.4 percent in January, partially rebounding from the first decline in five months, which occurred in December when Western storms kept building crews away from construction sites.
Residential, nonresidential and government spending totaled $589.8 billion at a seasonally adjusted annual rate, up from $587.4 billion in December, the Commerce Department said Monday. Spending in January was 5.5 percent above that of the same month last year.
