LONDON -- When only one child survives a pregnancy that started out as twins, it stands a high chance of being born with cerebral palsy, according to evidence uncovered by scientists at the Liverpool University School of Medicine.
The discovery suggests that women who lose a twin before birth could be offered abortions to eliminate the chance of the other child being born with cerebral palsy. But as the risk of handicap is one in 10, the move would trigger intense controversy.
