MEDICINE

Inflammation, heart attack linked

BOSTON - A study in today's New England Journal of Medicine has uncovered a link between inflammation and the risk of developing a heart attack or stroke.

The findings also suggest that the inflammation-fighting properties of aspirin may explain why the pain killer seems to prevent heart attacks. Until now, researchers thought that aspirin's clot-preventing properties explained its ability to prevent heart disease.
