Tighter emission standards for sport utility vehicles and pickups could help reduce gases that some scientists believe will bring global warming, the president of the Sierra Club said Friday.
``The guys who carry barbed wire need pickup trucks - no doubt about it,'' said Carl Pope. ``Average suburban families don't need a pickup truck for their 16-year-old kid to drive around.''
Sport utility vehicles, pickups and minivans are held to the pollution standards of trucks, rather than the stricter standards of passenger cars.
