More than 6,300 Coloradans are packing pistols legally - compared with several hundred just two years ago - and the number is expected to more than triple if a controversial concealed weapons bill passes in the state House this week.
The Colorado Bureau of Investigation estimates that 19,000 people will carry heat legally, but one legislator predicts the number could skyrocket to 30,000.
The main reason law-abiding citizens say they need guns is to protect themselves.
