U S West Media Group, already the nation's third-largest cable television operator, is expected to grow into a stronger competitor by shedding $6.1 billion in debt through plans announced Friday.
U S West Inc. will transfer its domestic telephone directory publishing business from Media Group back to U S West Communications in a $4.75 billion transaction. And Media Group signed a definite agreement with AirTouch Communications to complete the $5 billion deal they announced a month ago.
