Trader Joe's, a California grocery store phenomenon, has set its sails toward Denver.
The upscale Pasadena-based grocery chain confirmed Tuesday it hopes to expand into the Denver market as soon as late next year.
``We've done a preliminary study of the market, and it looks good to us,'' said John Shields, Trader Joe's president.
Established 39 years ago as a string of convenience stores known as Pronto Markets, Trader Joe's has blossomed into an 93 store-chain with a near cult-like following in California and the Pacific Northwest.
