Prosecutors believe the main component of the Oklahoma City bomb was a version of ammonium nitrate specifically made for bombs, not fertilizer.
If so, what was it doing on the market, easily available to the general public?
The answer: Explosives manufacturers routinely funneled excess bomb-grade ammonium nitrate into the agricultural market, to be sold as fertilizer in farm cooperatives and other retail outlets.
