To our knowledge, high school soccer is the only sport in the state played by rules in the playoffs different from those in effect during the regular season.
Case in point: During the regular season, overtimes are played in two five-minute periods, with the winner the first team to score. Call it sudden victory or sudden death, it makes no difference.
But in the state playoffs, they play two 10-minute periods and it doesn't matter which team scores first or how many goals are scored. The full 20 minutes is played. If the teams are tied, they go to a shootout.
