Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, R-Colo., introduced a bill Thursday that would allow citizens to carry concealed weapons across state lines if they had permits.
Law enforcement officials could do so without permits if they had proper identification. The bill would exempt them from state laws that prohibit the carrying of concealed weapons if they conform with stringent rules.
Currently, 31 states allow citizens to get permits to carry concealed weapons. Campbell's bill would not force states to recognize permits from other states but would allow them to do so.
