The Nobel Committee has given the wording in Alfred Nobel's will a relatively broad interpretation. One reason is that the very concept of peace has changed in meaning since his day. The Prize has been won by persons with very dissimilar backgrounds: statesmen and revolutionaries, pacifists and generals, philosophers and practical men of action from many countries and cultural spheres.
