From the time America was a group of colonies, women poets have been writing. These authors came from many different backgrounds, but all loved to write, and most started when they were young.
Anne Bradstreet (1612-1672) traveled from England to settle in Massachusetts. Even with a busy life as the mother of eight, she found time to write poems. She liked to write about the people and subjects closest to her heart -- her husband, children, nature, and history.
