Charter school supporters basked Wednesday in the success of several schools, as demonstrated by their gains on the eighth-grade basic-skills tests.
In years past, those schools have not fared well on the state reading and math tests, raising questions about whether or not they're making good on their promises to provide an innovative and solid education.
The latest results, which show double-digit gains for several schools, bolstered the claims of charter school supporters that these independent and unusual schools can and will change the educational landscape for the better.
