He has devoted most of his professional life to remembering and commemorating the Korean War at home and around the world.
Although he didn't fight in the war, he had served with the U.S. Military government before the war (when he was a student at Yonsei) and as a student volunteer with the 11th ROK Division. Later, he covered it as a war correspondent for Reuters and the Kukje Daily. He has also served as a member of the National Assembly.
However, as chairman of the U.N. Korean War Allies Association, Chi has devoted his life to remembering and honoring those U.N. member nations, which fought in the Korean War.
