EAGLE -- The Air Force came up empty-handed Tuesday in its first full-day search for four 500-pound bombs aboard a warplane that crashed into a mountain.
The day's search, nearly 12,000 feet up the side of Gold Dust Peak, revealed how long and painstaking the effort may be to find and recover key pieces of the craft.
Capt. Craig Button, an A-10 trainee from Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, died April 2 after leaving a training formation in southern Arizona and flying 800 miles off course into Colorado. The Air Force has provided no explanation for Button's actions.
