It's time to give dip its due. While dip is known for adding flavor and texture to foods ranging from chips to buffalo wings, it is also often recognized as a contributor of excess fat and empty calories to the daily diet. But dip doesn't have to be relegated to its status as filler or high-fat flavoring. Today, dips can offer valuable nourishment and vibrant taste without excessive fat and calories.
Almost any dip can be made lighter by substituting a fat-free or low-fat alternative for high-fat ingredients such as cream cheese, sour cream or mayonnaise. Plain, low-fat or non-fat yogurt and sour cream are all great bases for your favorite creamy dips.
