VATICAN CITY -- Mother Teresa, who dedicated her life to helping the poor and the outcast, was considered by many as a living saint.
With her death Friday in Calcutta at 87, she seems to be an ideal candidate to be declared a saint of the Roman Catholic Church. But the process could take some time.
Despite the price her health paid for her work, she doesn't appear eligible to be considered a martyr, a category that would speed the way, said a Vatican official familiar with the procedures.
Still, there is a great deal of interest in her case, with Pope John Paul II one of her leading admirers.
