For the second year in a row, nearly four out of 10 students failed to graduate from their Denver public high school.
District officials were disappointed at the 61.5 percent graduation rate, which is less than one percentage point higher than last year's rate. But there was more encouraging news about the dropout rate.
It fell to 6.5 percent in 1997 from 8.5 percent last year. This marks the second consecutive annual decline and is a much lower rate than the 10.3 percent posted in 1993.
