Anthony Garcia was born in Colorado. But his mother has never let him forget that his roots are in Mexico.
On Sunday, 13-year-old Anthony and his mother, Laura Garcia, sat side by side at Civic Center Park in Denver to celebrate Mexico's Independence Day.
Nearly 3,000 people gathered at the 18th annual event to commemorate Mexico's break in 1821 from Spain's colonial rule.
``It feels good to be here,'' Anthony said, gazing out over a crowd of colorfully dressed festival participants. ``I'm learning my people's history. And I'm learning it in Spanish, which I don't hear at school.''
