Crested Butte residents are getting the chance to meet a 1970s icon this week.

Evel Knievel, 58, the motorcycle-riding stuntman who rose to fame by performing death-defying feats, is in the small ski town this week to film a commercial for ESPN's second annual Winter X Games.

The 15- and 30-second spots will begin airing on ESPN's three networks to promote the games, which will be Jan. 15-18 at Crested Butte Mountain Resort.

``He has definitely been a big hit around here,'' said Stephanie Bryson, a spokeswoman for the resort. ``A little Hollywood goes a long way in Crested Butte.''
