Alex Woods Jr. won't be a Denver cop if a powerful U.S. senator has his way.
Woods, convicted of beating up his girlfriend in 1995, was back patrolling Denver's streets Sunday night. He'd pulled months of desk duty because of a new law that said domestic violence offenders can't carry guns.
But federal attorneys ruled last week that the law applies only to officers convicted of abusing their spouses.
Girlfriends don't count, the attorneys said.
