Fans of Gen. George Custer on Monday won a fight to oust the Little Bighorn National Battlefield's superintendent - an Indian.
Gerard Baker, a Mandan-Hidatsa, has been transferred to Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Oklahoma. Neil Mangum, Little Bighorn's former chief historian and an expert on Western Indian wars, becomes the new superintendent.
``Gerard wanted the job in Oklahoma, but his relationship with the Custer buffs was a factor,'' said Ron Everhart, deputy regional director of the Park Service.
