The end of court-ordered busing in the fall promises to make 1996 one of the most tumultuous years for Denver Public Schools since busing began 22 years ago.

"No question about that," said school board president Aaron Gray. "This is something as new as busing was (in 1974). . . . It's not going to be easy."

Many decisions made in the first months of this year will help determine where students go to school next fall, how much choice they will have in educational programs, how money will be distributed and how their teachers will respond.
